One of the most famous brush pens by Kuretake has got to be the Wink of Luna brush pens. Not to be mistaken for the Wink of Stella brush pens, these have a beautiful metallic finish as opposed the glittery Wink of Stella. Read on to see how these performed!
The Wink of Luna is slightly fancier than the Wink of Stella. They're also substantially more expensive. Almost 100 bucks more expensive, which is why I had my reservations buying locally because they cost about 300+php. However in Japan, they cost a lot less at 450yen (Approx. 180php) so I took the opportunity to buy 2 for the price of 1 here in Manila. *Evil laughter*
As usual, remove the black ring in the middle, reassemble, and enjoy!
Despite its similarity to the Wink of Stella, I was actually surprised to see that the Wink of Luna actually had a noticeably larger and thicker brush, probably to better handle the thick metallic ink.
The ink is beautifully opaque and ideal for layering. Again, it's a shame the photo doesn't capture the subtle sheen. Very elegant! However, I'm not sure if this is just because it's new, but the ink can be inconsistent. It's definitely thicker so it takes time to come out, but the results are quite beautiful even on white paper.
I was actually surprised at how different it is with the Wink of Stella, which only goes to show how Kuretake has a lot of diversity when it comes to their products. I would've loved this brush pen even more if it glided on paper as smoothly as the Wink of Stella but it has a lot of my love, still. The only real downside to metallic ink is its thickness can make it harder to use unlike the glittery ink which is more fluid and flexible.
The Wink of Luna is definitely more ideal if you like a metallic finish or you're looking for a brush pen that's great for layering. It can literally cover up anything! Can't wait to see how it performs with my upcoming architectural projects :)

ReplyDeleteIm surprised that calligraphy is only got popular this year and last year but back in 1998 when I was in Junior High we've been doing this long before. We only use donga colored gel pen, lol

ReplyDeleteDo these pens work on dark coloured papers? Just wondering because if it does, it will actually be very beneficial to many artists who like working against black paper.
