The Scroll & Brush by ZIG's Memory System collection is definitely one of the more popular pens of the bunch, which is why I was so happy when it became available in most National Bookstores for the same price as my favorite art store - Craft Carrot! I got my very first one last year during an art fair in UP Town Center and have been a fan since. Read on to see how it performs!
The packaging is clean and simple. I also would like to note how easy it is to read the words on the pen since it's in black ink against a cream body. The caps lock into the pen with a satisfying click as usual.
In case you're wondering, the colors I got are Spice, Yellow, and Ocean. (From top to bottom) :D
Quick tip comparison for size reference. The brush is relatively medium in size with similar performance to the Tombow Dual Brush Pens, but I feel that with the Scroll & Brush, the fibers of the brush are more compacted which means it's a lot less likely to fray.
One thing I can say for sure is that I am in LOVE with the brush tip. When I got my Yellow pen last year I immediately noted how easy it was to control even when I was just starting with calligraphy so I feel that this is definitely recommended for beginners. You can create about 0.2mm-5mm lines with it but the 5mm lines would require a lot of force because this brush has a lot of resistance - perfect for those with a heavier hand like me.
As for the scroll tip, it's my first time using something like this so I'm still figuring it out. With it, you can create an Old English effect (Which I suck at) with its double tip. One is about 1.5mm and the other is 1mm.

Overall, I'm really happy with this pen, however I'm not sure how I feel about the scroll tip quite yet. Definitely recommend this to those who're looking to try calligraphy for the first time, though!

Unlike in the past few months, I am really interested in calligraphy. I tried my first one using just your standard pen and I found it really relaxing. I'm thinking of getting a calligraphy pen, just to try it out.

ReplyDeleteNational actually has more of the one with the scroll tip than with the brush ends. I personally prefer the brush end because like you, I can't figure out how to properly use a scroll tip!
