Hong Kong 2013: Shopping In The City

The last of my HK travel posts is going to be all about my shopping experience in this awesome country, so let’s get to it, shall we? :D

One of my absolute favorite things to do has to be outlet shopping because you can get quality items minus the hefty price tag which, let’s face it, is quite hard to beat! That’s why when I learned about the Citygate Outlets at Dong Cheng, I knew I had to check it out! It was our last stop after visiting Ngong Ping Village that day. (Read more about it here!)

After seeing the sights, I was definitely ready to hit the stores! :)

To no surprise, Citygate is certainly your one-stop shop for your dose of luxury outlet shopping. They have brands from Burberry to even Nike and Adidas. (Also would like to note that footwear at Nike is CRAZY cheap. It’s not even funny how discounted the prices are there.)

Below are just some of the other brands that can be found here.

They actually have two Coach stores to separate men from women, which just goes to show how much stuff they sell!

After the outlets, we moved on to the heart of shopping in Hong Kong, Mong Kok! But Mong Kok isn’t just known to be a shopping mecca, it’s also the go-to place for good old fashioned street food! :D

Yes, we’re talking old-school Chinatown vibes. I feel like any minute now, Jackie Chan will be bursting through the scene with a bunch of cars chasing after him. LOL

My dad’s friends led us to this stall that specializes in Stinky Tofu! It’s a delicacy that’s both loved and avoided by many. It really does smell horrible but it wouldn’t be called such if it wasn’t! Anywho, I’ve eaten it before on my last trip to China because my friends and I were feeling very brave at the time and it really isn’t bad at all. It’s actually quite good! When it’s in your mouth, it doesn’t stink. Not even one bit. It’s just legitimately good food! :)

The stall’s version of Stinky Tofu was deep-fried and on a stick with a few generous squirts of hot sauce which I found to be cool as the one in China was sort of fried, then stir-fried with a black sauce and served on a little paper plate. They’re both really good and really worth trying! :D

On your way to Mong Kok proper, you get to see tons of different stores selling different things. Even stores that fishes like this one!

At first I thought it was surprisingly chill in Mong Kok, but then we were still a block away at the time.

THIS IS MONG KOK. LOL there’s just so so many people all in one place it’s insane. Definitely not advisable for families with little kids to go as there is a real possibility that your child will get lost into the crowd if you’re not careful.

Since my parents were already quite tired from Citygate, we decided to skip the crowd and opted to head for Langham Place which is a mall that houses lots of luxury cosmetics as well as H&M. Right across it is a big Collect Point where you can find tons of Korean/Japanese brands like Lowry’s Farm, Jeanasis, and Globalwork. I’ve only read about these from Tricia Gosingtian’s blog and I love love love each brand’s aesthetic but the prices are unfortunately really expensive. I didn’t pictures anymore since there was just too many people and I feared for my DSLR’s security. :(

On another night, after we ate dinner, we went to check out this HUUUUUUGE Forever 21 store in Causeway Bay that houses 4 floors of women’s clothing, with the Basement Level for Men. It’s crazy because I feel like this building is as large as my college building in UST! To this day, I still cannot get over the size of this store. I mean whuuuut. LOL but I digress: Forever 21 here is slightly cheaper than here in the Philippines but if I’m not mistaken, the leather jackets are a LOT cheaper in Hong Kong.

Aaaand that ends my Hong Kong travel posts! I really hope I get to come back some time next year! :D
