Since our last morning in Hong Kong was spent mostly with relatives there and prepping for our flight in the afternoon, the only thing I got to document was our breakfast at the famous Tim Ho Wan in Fortress Hill!
Unlike a lot of the places we ate at in Hong Kong, Tim Ho Wan is a bit more humble and a lot more traditional and cozy in terms of food joints. I love how it reminds me of the Chinese restaurants in Binondo, only people don’t line up in the Philippines at 7 in the morning for just dimsum. :O
Even at that time of the day, Tim Ho Wan was already packed and we were quite lucky to have a spot! The workers moved like lightning and served everyone there as quickly as they could to accommodate more customers. Aside from locals, there were a LOT of tourists with us there as well. Some even brought their luggage with them! Haha!
Where all the magic happens.
First up was this sticky rice wrapped and steamed in the leaf. It’s filled with slices of pork leg and it tastes so light and sweet with the sauce it comes with!
Classic congee to start anyone’s day. The rice is so fine, the congee just goes down so smoothly.
Classic Hakaw that’s not pre-frozen. LOL it tastes just like any other hakaw only you can sense the freshness.
This interesting dumpling is more on the healthy side. It’s filled with cubed vegetables and tiny tiny bits of meat and is then dipped in either soy sauce or chilli sauce or both! Very very refreshing.
One of my all-time favorite dimsums has to be the Beef Ball. I love how the flavors come together in this dish and it is just too scrumptious to pass up.
Tim Ho Wan’s version is no exception! Seeing the picture has literally made my mouth water! LOL
Last was their specialty, the Pork BBQ buns. These have been critically acclaimed by very famous food journalists from everywhere and I can see why! It’s a lightly fried bun dusted with sugar and some melted butter. Inside is a pork barbeque filling that’s a great combination of sweet and salty and smokey, while the bun itself is crisp and light. My parents loved it so much they bought so many boxes of it to give to relatives. Haha!
Close-up on the pork barbeque filling.
And before I end this post, here’s shot of the crowd outside when we left. This was around 8 in the morning at the time. Insaaaane.
'Til next time! :D
