How about some Filipino food, for a change? I realize I’ve been raving too much about foreign cooking that I forgot about the food created here in the country. And in Tagaytay, there really is no place to enjoy this than RSM Lutong Bahay in Tagaytay!
As you can see, RSM’s place is relatively old, which just goes to show how long they’ve been at the business of serving delicious familiar dishes that remind us of, well, home! Hence, the name “Lutong Bahay” which means “home-cooked” in Filipino! :)
I was pretty surprised at how large the area was. The al fresco area is almost as vast as the two-storey indoor restaurant. Now, that’s pretty cool!
For those in a rush, you can order via cafeteria-style! (That’s the only way I know how to put it. LOL) But if you’re not in a rush, you can always sit back and order!
First up is the famous Bulalo, which is basically the Filipino version of the classic beef soup! The beef chunks, were of course, delicious. And I like that the soup’s flavor is quite understated. Not too salty, either!
Chicken Adobo is something I rarely get to eat at home because we usually do Pork Adobo. Anywho, I especially loved this dish because unlike the Bulalo, its flavors have this salty-sour kick that is just great. Definitely one of my favorites.
Another one of my favorites is definitely the Laing. It’s basically greens cooked in coconut milk and thickened and spiced. I really liked how creamy they made the sauce. This tasted the best with the rice.
Last came these little fried fishes that you just pop in your mouth. I love it for so many reasons: You don’t have to worry about bones, it’s delicious, and lastly, the sauce it comes with is awesome! I’m not sure what fish it is, though. Danggit, I think?
For dessert, I enjoyed the classic Buko Pandan. Nothing added, just pure coconut goodness!
The verdict: Don’t expect some surreal gourmet experience here. From the name itself, RSM offers a warm environment to enjoy classic Filipino dishes that remind you of the ones that you eat in the comfort of your homes. Regardless of the commercial spark that RSM doesn’t boast, I would definitely come back here! The place is lovely, and the food is great! What’s not to love? :)
RSM Lutong-Bahay is located at the Aguinaldo Highway Maharlika East, Tagaytay City.
