Got to tag along on one of my sister's invitations again and this time it was to try Mr. Graham's and Mrs. Graham's along Scout Rallos in Quezon City! I didn't really read up on these spots so I didn't know what to expect, but I was pretty much blown away with this whole experience. While Mr. Graham's is a place where you can grab a hearty meal, you can have some dessert just next door at Mrs. Graham's, but more on the desserts part later! For now, read on to see my review on Mr. Graham's Sandwich Shop!
The two specialties of this restaurant - and with good reason! You'll see what I mean later. ;)
The prices are pretty reasonable since the servings are quite generous. You're guaranteed to be super full with less than 500 bucks! (+ means dine-in and x means takeout)
Would love to enjoy this happy hour promo they have. The Apple Pie Soda alone is enough to have me keep coming back. Haha!
The main dining area is upstairs and it's super cozy and perfect for a barkada of up to 12 people! Don't worry though, there are also tables for smaller groups.
Their well-deserved feature on appetite Magazine.
And now onto the food! We got to sample a few of their dishes but believe me when I say my sister and I cleaned everything out! Haha!
The first one we tried was The Salmwich which has lemon buttered salmon with tomatoes, capers, alfafa sprouts, and cream cheese, served with their signature aioli.
Everything was so surprisingly light but so flavorful! The salmon is lightly seasoned but packs just the right punch on its own. Coupled with all the freshness of the veggies and the cream cheese plus the aioli, you've got an awesomely balanced sandwich that quickly earns a spot in your heart!
We also got to try the Salmon Chips 2.0 which is a plate of assorted homemade chips: potato, sweet potato, and taro, with pieces of salmon sprinkled with garlic and parmesan. Lastly, the dish is crowned with a poached egg.
It's not very salty like your usual potato chips. It's so fragrant and the you can really taste the sweet potato and the taro. It's a good appetizer that can easily satisfy around 4 people. Although I enjoyed this a lot, I wish I could've tasted the salmon more because there were just tiny bits here and there. It's a great little snack to enjoy with their Apple Pie Soda! I can already imagine having this with my friends. :)
I don't think I've ever appreciated a soda more in all of my life. One of my absolute favorites has got to be the Apple Pie Soda and it's just as you probably imagined it. It's a carbonated drink that has the base taste of apple juice that's amped up by so many amazing spices that it becomes an experience on its own. It's brewed by Mr. Graham himself and it's a bottle of pure genius. Not to be mistaken for a super sweet drink, I love how it gives you a shot of cinnamon (and nutmeg?) with every drink. It just smells so good and is so refreshing and I crave for a bottle every single day. Haha!
If you're not a fan of cinnamon then this probably isn't for you, because the cinnamon is a bit strong in this drink. This is definitely not something to be missed, though!
A play on the Cubano sandwich, Mr. Graham came up with the Filipino answer - the Cebuano! It isn't as pretty as the Salmwich but I assure you, it's absolutely amazing. Aside from the crispy bread, you've got slices of lechon (Filipino style roasted pork), ham, cheddar cheese, pickled green and ripe mangos, and onions. It's served with some chicharon and a cup of the lechon drippings.
This sandwich is so incredibly sinful but it's so incredibly good. No need to worry about it being too salty or tasting too fatty because it is also beautifully balanced like the Salmwich only heaps more flavorful. The balance is absolutely amazing with the sweet-sour taste of the pickled veggies with the ripe mango being the most prominent. The flavorful roasted pork just works so well with all the other things in this sandwich that it'll blow your mind. You also have the option to dip the sandwich in the drippings sauce to make it more sinful, as Mr. Graham would put it. Haha! And I did. lol
So. Freakin. Good. But. Not. Good. For. You. Hahahaha
What the Cebuano looks like inside. This sandwich is already pretty great even without the drippings. I suggest you just try a bite with the drippings just to know how it tastes! :)
Another great side you can have is Grandpa's Coleslaw. You have the option to order it spicy, which we did, and it was definitely made more interesting because of the heat that contrasts with the cool coleslaw. Here you've got your sliced cabbage, carrots, red onion, and apples. The sauce is thicker than a lot of the watery coleslaw they serve in fast food places but it isn't too overpowering and gives the veggies some room to shine. It's sweet, tangy, and just the right level of spicy for me. (Which means it'll probably be too spicy for a lot of my friends. Haha!) I liked eating it with the Salmon Chips but it's already good on its own.
I really do not have enough good things to say about this place. It's just really worth visiting, which is a refreshing change of pace since most of the restaurants I've tried in the Tomas Morato area have been pretty disappointing. Worth the hype and all the praise. Thanks for having us, Mr. Graham!
Stay tuned for dessert at Mrs. Graham's! But for now, you can check out Mr. Graham's Sandwich Shop Facebook Page here.
Mr. Graham's Sandwich Shop is located at 51 Scout Rallos Street, Laging Handa, Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
