Zamboanga 2013: Sta. Cruz Island

On the morning of our third day at Zamboanga, we finally had the chance to get in on some swimming! We set out of Vista del Mar really early and headed to Paseo del Mar to board the boat to Santa Cruz Island!

The boat ride going to the island is quite similar to the ones that tourists usually ride when they visit the Taal Volcano at Batangas, but they differ in terms of the view. The sea was especially beautiful on our ride to Big Santa Cruz Island. They call it “Big” because there’s another island adjacent to it and they call that “Little Santa Cruz Island.”

Be warned though, “Little Santa Cruz” is rumored to be a very dangerous place, so I think it’s best you stick to “Big Santa Cruz.” LOL

It’s a bit of a long ride to the island, but I promise you, it’s WORTH IT! :)

The boatmen literally let you down on the water! This is a pretty good way to get accustomed to the surprisingly chilly water. Hahaha!

Santa Cruz Island is famous for its Rose Pink sand! You can’t see it very clearly from my photos but if you ever get there, you’ll see that the sand is flecked with hot pink dots! And take note, these are 100% natural! No chemical magic going on here!

If there’s one thing I should tell you about is that the shore is a bit rocky with countless pieces of corals. It might tickle or hurt just a teeny bit when you make your way to the water.

If you’re done swimming, you can knock yourself out at their volleyball courts as well as a little jewelry/souvenir market just a few steps away from the huts!

Up next, our shopping trip as well as all the food we ate! (Yes, there’s a completely separate post for the food! LOL)
